This 1920 home in Pittsburgh’s Regent Square neighborhood was renovated in 1954 into a two-family home and very little had changed since. The 1st floor is a 1-bedroom 1-bath apartment, and the 2nd & 3rd floor are a 3-bedroom 1-bath apartment.
I did most of the renovation work myself with the help of a friend Garret, who runs Afterhours Build LLC. I hired a plumber for the new rough plumbing, an electrician for the new rough electrical, and an HVAC contractor for the new HVAC system. I completely renovated the 1st and 2nd floor bathrooms, the 1st floor kitchen, and part of the 2nd floor kitchen. All plumbing and electrical wiring was completely re-done. The radiators on the 1st floor remained but were removed from the 2nd floor. A new ducted mini-split HVAC system for the 2nd & 3rd floor apartment is installed.
Among lots of experimental details and repurposing of found materials, I replaced two windows, re-finished the floors and trim, and cleaned up the basement.
Below are some photos of the finished renovation.
